Soccer Mommy spends a sixth week at #1

We imagine Soccer Mommy is tooling around in her minivan feeling prettay prettaaay good about herself at the moment. Sophie Allison’s third LP, Sometimes, Forever (Loma Vista/Concord) has now spent six weeks at #1 and is within one week of matching Wet Leg for the longest run at the top in 2022. Even bigger, she extends her all-time ‘weeks at #1 record’ at 14 weeks when this run us combined with her previous two four-week runs on top with her first two LPs. Working to stop her next week will be Cheekface (4-2) and Kiwi Jr, (up 9-3), whose chances look fairly good with the slimmest margin between #1 and #2 since Soccer Mommy reached #1 in July.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week and we’ll be featuring them both here. The first is, just slightly, the biggest climber into the top tier. Reset (Domino) is the first collaborative album for Panda Bear And Sonic Boom. Panda Bear is the stage name for Noah Lennox while Peter Kember records as Sonic Boom. Kember previously co-produced two Panda Bear LPs. This album, which rises 15-10, is Panda Bears ninth studio album (which includes three collaborative releases) and Sonic Boom’s third (and his first collaborative album).

Also rising into the NACC Top 10 this week is another collaborative LP. It comes from Danger Mouse And Black Thought. Cheat Codes (BMG) was recently featured here when it was the highest debut of the week. This week six-time Grammy winner Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and The Roots’ lead MC, Tarik Trotter (a three-time Grammy winner himself), who records as Black Thought, rise 12-8. They also spend a second week atop the NACC Hip Hop Chart.

Longtime London five-piece Hot Chip is back with their eighth LP, Freakout/Release (Domino). Formed in 1995 by Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard when they were students at Elliott School, the band released two EPs before their debut LP, Coming On Strong, was released in 2004. This week their latest effort leaps onto the NACC 200 at #20 and races from 19-2 on NACC Electronic.

Honorable mention goes to yet another collaborative album, this one from Meridian Brothers & El Grupo Renacimiento, who make the biggest climb on the NACC 200, up 161-47.

Chicago native Ezra Furman takes most-added honors this week with her sixth solo LP, All Of Us Flames (Anti-), collecting 50 Top 10 Adds. Although Furman has been active making music since 2006 (and before her solo career, released three albums as Ezra Furman And The Harpoons), this is the first chance we’ve gotten to feature her here in the NACC Chart Recap. Furman has 10 live dates scheduled in September mainly on the East Coast.

New York City trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs lands a second week atop the NACC Singles Chart this week with the second song released from their upcoming Cool It Down LP, “Burning” also spends a second week just inside the Top 30 of the NACC 200. Chapel Hill quartet Archers Of Loaf will be releasing their first new album in 24 years on October 21. “Screaming Undercover” is the second song released from their fifth LP, Reason In Decline and it’s the most added single of the week.

The current NACC 200 Top 20, the Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to a return to #1 at NACC Canadian, there are new #1s at NACC Non-Comm, Jazz, Folk, Heavy, and Chill.
