Soccer Mommy ties the all-time cumulative weeks atop the NACC 200

It was another three-way battle for #1 this week as Momma tried to wrest the crown back from Soccer Mommy after she grabbed it back from them last week. And still into the mix was Metric, who has now been #1 at NACC NEXT for five weeks in a row. When the dust settled Soccer Mommy edged out Metric and enjoyed a fourth non-consecutive week at #1 with her third LP, Sometimes, Forever (Loma Vista/Concord). Each one of her albums has spent four weeks at #1 which helps her move into a tie with Arlo Parks for the all-time cumulative weeks atop the NACC 200 with 12 weeks at the penthouse for both.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week (and honorable mention goes to Wilco for rebounding 12-10 with the current chart-topper at NACC Non-Comm). Recent Harvard Divinity School graduate Maggie Rogers leaps from 13-5 on the NACC 200 this week with her second LP, Surrender (Capitol). She’s now two-for-two with her 2019 debut, Heard It In A Past Life, also reaching the Top 10.

Exploding into the Top 10 this week (making it the biggest climber into the Top 10 and the biggest climb on the overall chart) is last week’s most-added album. We predicted a big climb last week, and the Los Angeles trio Cheekface did not disappoint, skyrocketing from 172-9 with their third LP, Too Much To Ask (Self-Released). The album is just the third in NACC 200 history to climb from #170 or lower into the Top 10. For trivia buffs, the other two are Marika Hackman (182-10) and the current record holder, Yard Act (196-6).

The highest debut on the NACC 200 this week is a collaborative album from songwriter and producer Danger Mouse and The Roots emcee Black Thought. Cheat Codes (BMG) has been rumored to be percolating since 2005 when the two recorded their first songs together but came more into view in 2017. COVID delayed the release, but it’s here now and jumps aboard the NACC 200 at #26. Danger Mouse is no stranger to our chart having topped it with Karen O on another collaborative album in 2019.

Canadian quartet Kiwi Jr (whose name definitely has us wondering just who and where Kiwi Sr is) have returned with their third LP in as many years. Originally from Prince Edward Island, the band now call Toronto home. Their latest release, Chopper (Sub Pop), was produced by Wolf Parade’s Dan Boeckner. Dan has also been part of Handsome Furs, Divine Fits (along with Britt Daniel of Spoon) and as of this year, Arcade Fire.

Bellingham’s Death Cab For Cutie locks down #1 on the NACC Singles Chart for a second week with “Here To Forever.” The song is one of three that has been released ahead of the band’s upcoming tenth LP, Asphalt Meadows, due September 16. There must be something in the water on Prince Edward Island. We just featured Kiwi Jr and now here we are with another band that calls the island home. Alvvays is back with the second single from their forthcoming third LP, Blue Rev. Just like the previous single, “The Pharmacist,” “Easy On Your Own?” is this week’s most-added single, and will hope to follow it to #1 on NACC Singles.

The current Top 5 overall NACC Adds (actually a rare seven records this week), the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to a return to #1 at Chill, there are new #1s at NACC Canadian, R&B/Soul, Blues, and Electronic.
