Soaring 7-1 to score her second NACC 200 #1 album is Annie Clark, who records as St. Vincent. Her sixth album, Daddy’s Home (Loma Vista/Concord), becomes the fifth #1 of 2021 and, should it have an extended run on top, could give her the most cumulative weeks atop the NACC 200, even if she doesn’t match Arlo Parks’ 12-week run. And if anyone has a chance to come anywhere close to giving Arlo Parks a run for her newly-minted longevity title, it is an artist who held that title herself at one point. Clark also spends a second week at #1 on NACC NEXT and rises 3-1 on NACC Non-Comm.
Two new albums reach the NACC 200’s Top 10 this week, along with a rebound from Arlo Parks (11-9). Squid leaps 15-4, but it’s Akron, Ohio duo The Black Keys, who make the biggest climb, jumping 28-10 with their 10th LP, Delta Kream (Nonesuch), a cover album of hill country blues songs from artists like Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside.
The week’s highest debut comes from New Zealand quintet The Chills. Formed in Dundin in 1980, the project revolves mainly around band member Martin Phillipps, who is the only original member. More than 25 artists called themselves band members between 1980 and 2000 though membership has been a bit more consistent since then with two current band members having been a part of the group for over 20 years. The band’s seventh LP, Scatterbrain (Fire), debuts at #33 this week.
Olympia, WA titans Sleater-Kinney have returned with the first single from their upcoming 10th LP, Path Of Wellness, due June 11. It’s the band’s first without longtime member Janet Weiss. Her departure in 2019 after 23 years as the band’s drummer leaves Sleater-Kinney as a duo with original members Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein. “Worry With You” (the album’s first single) is this week’s biggest mover, up 125-46.
Philadelphia,PA trio Mannequin Pussy enjoys this week’s most-added album. After three LPs, the band returns with their first EP, Perfect (Epitaph). Formed in 2010, only one original member, Marisa Dabice, remains after Athanasios Paul left in 2020. The album collects 66 Top 10 Adds to become a rare EP to top NACC 200 Adds.
Pacific Northwest-based eight-piece Modest Mouse spends a second week #1 on the NACC Singles Chart with “We Are Between” which comes from their upcoming seventh LP, The Golden Casket, due out June 25. Vancouver indie rock band Said The Whale enjoy this week’s most-added single (their second straight most-added of 2021) with “Everything She Touches Is Gold To Me.” Their seventh LP will be out later this year.
