#1 The Beths | The NACC Charts for the week ending August 11

After a vigorous battle for #1 on the NACC 200 the last two weeks, and a razor-thin margin that helped Phoebe Bridgers extend her chart-topping run to four weeks, New Zealand indie-pop quartet The Beths have sailed to #1 with their first-ever NACC 200 leader. Led by Elizabeth Stokes, the band’s second LP, Jump Rope Gazers (Carpark), becomes 2020’s thirteenth album to reach the summit. All three NACC Top 10 debuts this week will challenge The Beths for the top next week.

Those three future #1 contenders include Fontaines D.C. (jumping 31-3) and Protomartyr (up 11-5). But the biggest climber into the top tier this week comes from last week’s most-added artist: Washed Out. Mister Mellow (Sub Pop) is musician Ernest Green’s fourth LP and soars from 37-8 this week, becoming his second album to reach the NACC Top 10.

The chart’s biggest climber this week hails from Montreal, Quebec. Canadian trio Land Of Talk, led by Elizabeth Powell (it’s Elizabeth-fronted band week!), jumps 135-16. The Saddle Creek band’s fourth LP, Indistinct Conversations, could be in line to become their second NACC Top 10 album in the very near future.

The NACC 200’s highest debut this week comes from Chicago quartet Ganser. Just Look At That Sky (Felte) is the band’s second LP following 2018’s Odd Talk. The album hops aboard the NACC 200 this week at #37, besting other NACC 200 Top 50 debuts from Hockey Dad and The Naked & Famous.

Collecting more Top 10 Adds than any other artist this week is L.A.-based quartet Girl Friday. Born while band members Vera Ellen and Libby Hsieh were attending UCLA, Girl Friday is releasing their debut album, Androgynous Mary. It also debuted at #109 on the NACC 200 this week.

Sylvan Esso jumps 3-1 on the NACC Singles Chart this week with the first single from their upcoming third LP, Free Love, due September 25. Two acts tie for most-added single this week: The Budos Band, with “Long In The Tooth” (the first single from their album of the same name, due October 9) and Katie Melua with “A Love Like That” (from her presciently titled eighth album, Album No, 8, due October 16).

The NACC 200’s Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to a return to #1 on the Folk Chart, there are new chart-toppers at NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, Jazz, Latin, and Blues as well.
