The Black Keys grab their second NACC 200 #1 with eleventh LP

The Akron, OH duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have just nabbed their second NACC 200 chart-topper this week with their eleventh LP released as The Black Keys, Dropout Boogie (Nonesuch), rises 2-1. They spent five weeks at #1 in 2019 with their 9th LP, ‘Let’s Rock.‘ The Black Keys stopped Wet Leg from tying Mitski for the second-longest ever NACC 200 chart-topper this week. In addition to their own music, Auerbach has produced a number of records we’ve featured here including artists such as Shannon & The Clams, La Luz, Marcus King, and Yola.

Only one new album reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. It comes from Chicago six-piece Wilco. Their 12th LP, Cruel Country, out on their own dBpm imprint, soars from 18-3 on the NACC 200. Just like The Black Keys, Wilco is seeking their second NACC 200 #1 after most recently reaching the penthouse in 2019. If Cruel Country can reach #1, lead singer Jeff Tweedy will become the only artist to have four NACC 200 chart-toppers (as his two most recent solo LPs also went to #1).

Making the strongest inroads into the Top 20 of the NACC 200 is Chicago trio Dehd. Emily Kempf, Jason Balla, and Eric McGrady formed the band in 2015 and they’ve released four LPs, including their latest, Blue Skies (Fat Possum). The album soars from 62-12. They are now just two spots away from grabbing their second straight Top 10 album.

We’re always so happy to have a band feature for the very first time here on our NACC Chart Recap. Finicky condiment five-piece Just Mustard lands the NACC 200’s highest debut this week. The Irish band’s second LP, Heart Under (Partisan), hops aboard the chart at #42. It’s the second-lowest highest debut this year, but bragging rights still stand. Honorable mention to Sweet Pill for landing this week’s biggest climb, up 195-50.

This week’s most-added honor goes to long-time indie favorite Andrew Bird. Bird’s musical career dates back to 1992 and includes fourteen solo LPs in addition to three with his band Bowl Of Fire and his most recent LP, a collaborative release with Jimbo Mathus last year. Inside Problems (Loma Vista/Concord) collects 59 Top 10 Adds this week and debuts at #83 on the NACC 200.

Bellingham WA five-piece Death Cab For Cutie enjoys a third week at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart with “Roman Candles,” the lead single from their forthcoming tenth LP, Asphalt Meadows, due September 16. NYC trio The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are back with their first new music since 2013. “Spitting Off The Edge Of The World” features Perfume Genius and the song is this week’s most-added single. It previews the band’s fifth LP, Cool It Down, due September 30.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There is a return to #1 at World as well as new #1s at NACC NEXT, NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, Heavy, Electronic Blues, and Folk this week.
