Well, another year is in the books and we were so excited to be a part of it. NACC grew exponentially this year. Over 500 stations are registered to report their charts and over 700 programmers report charts each week over 10 different charts. And we have plans in 2018 to expand that even further with the addition of genre adds and expanded genre charts.
Below you will find a breakdown of who made the biggest waves on our charts this year. And please head HERE to see what albums participating MDs, DJs, promoters, labels and artists said were their personal favorites of 2017!
St. Vincent spent an unprecedented six weeks at #1 on the NACC 200 to land the Biggest Album of 2017 honors! Ten albums spent two or more weeks at #1 this year including Alvvays (5), Broken Social Scene & Father John Misty (4), Ty Segall & Mac Demarco (3) and Girlpool, Thundercat, Portugal. The Man & The War On Drugs (2).
Also worth mentioning is the overall highest debut of 2017 from Alt-J. They debuted at #6 in their first week on the NACC 200. Only one other album made an immediate Top 10 debut and that came from Washed Out. Interestingly, neither of these albums went on to reach #1 on the NACC 200 (though Alt-J did top the NACC Next Chart and Washed Out reached #1 at Electronic). But we’ll have to keep an eye on that possible ‘Top 10 debut but no #1’ curse going into 2018.
No artist had a bigger one-week climb on the NACC 200 this year than Black Angels back in April. They soared 190-16 on the chart. Theirs was one of just eight albums that climbed 150+ spots on the chart in one week. St. Vincent scores a second honor on our year-end wrap-up by also gathering the most Top 10 Adds in one week. Hers was one of only six Adds Chart-topping albums to amass 120+ adds, and she topped them all with 143.

The NACC Next Chart monitors a sub-set of stations that most often predict albums that will cross over and have mainstream success. And the album that spent the most weeks at #1 (5) there came from Beck, who certainly did enjoy crossover play, reaching #1 on both the AAA and Alternative Charts with “Up All Night” (which is his very first single to hit # on both those charts).
Topping the Non-Comm Chart for the longest period of time in 2017 (7 weeks) was Black Keys lead singer Dan Auerbach with his second solo release.
NACC genre chart #1s showed the breadth and depth of the music that finds a home on NACC-reporting stations. Seattle-based duo Odesza ruled the Electronic chart with seven weeks at the summit. Another duo that calls Seattle home, Shabazz Palaces, takes #1 honors at Hip Hop by spending six weeks on top. The NACC Folk Chart didn’t launch until a little later in 2017, but it’s inaugural #1 from David Rawlings has so far been it’s longest chart-topper, with four weeks at #1. The Blue Note All-Stars, a supergroup of Blue Note’s most promising young jazz musicians formed to celebrate the label’s 75th anniversary in 2014, had the #1 Jazz release of 2017, spending six weeks at #1. Two albums spent six weeks at #1 on the World Chart: Antibalas, a Brooklyn-based afrobeat band boasting a dozen members, and Mexican-American singer and actress Lila Downs. Two bands also tie for most weeks on top at Heavy: Massachusetts metalcore quartet Converge and Charleston, WV-based heavy metal quartet Byzantine, each spent six weeks at #1.
