The NACC Charts For August 1 Are Live!

Good Morning!
Your NACC Chart Recap is here.

Well that didn’t take long. After scoring the most added record just two weeks ago, Broken Social Scene complete their climb to the top of our chart with a 5-1 move. Hug Of Thunder features all 15 original members of the band including Feist (who has been on the NACC Chart this year with her own new music), Stars’ Amy Millan & Evan Cranley (who recently released new music with a two-sided single), and Metric’s Emily Haines (who debuted on the NACC 200 this week with the first taste of her upcoming solo album). BSS have been a core band at college and community radio going back to their 2001 debut and they prove just how vital they still are with their now #1 NACC Album. They also hold down #1 on the NACC Next Chart for a second week.

The NACC 200’s highest debut this week comes from David Michael Portner, also known as Avey Tare. He’s released a number of records away from the band Animal Collective (of which he is a co-founder), but this is his second truly solo effort. The Domino release is off to a strong start, jumping aboard the chart this week at #19.

For the first time this year, we have no new records in the Top 10. So we’re featuring the two biggest movers on the chart instead of solely the biggest. The top climb this week comes from Dan Croll. Croll’s first dream of being a professional rugby player was cut short by a broken leg. He turned to music and has now released his sophomore album, Emerging Adulthood, on which he not only wrote all the songs himself, but plays every instrument on the record. He enjoys a 181-61 jump this week. The second biggest jump on the new NACC 200 is the third release (all on Columbia) from Foster The People. Led by one-time jingle writer Mark Foster, the band broke through in a big way in 2011 with their smash single “Pumped Up Kicks” which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then the band have racked up 5 more Top 15 Commercial Alternative hits including “Doing It For The Money” from the new record. Sacred Hearts Club off to a strong start at college and community radio as well, jumping 132-34 this week on the NACC 200.

It was a battle royale for most added honors this week with four albums within eight adds of one another and the top two separated by just one add. Don’t feel too bad for runner-up Arcade Fire. They’ll no doubt be featured very soon right here. Coming out on top is singer, songwriter, guitarist, composer, marathon runner & gay rights activist Benjamin Gibbard. Best known as the lead singer for Death Cab For Cutie, Gibbard has released music away from the band as a member of Postal Service, his former solo side-project ¡All-Time Quarterback!, and an album in Jay Farrar. His first solo release in five years is a song-for-song cover of Teenage Fanclub’s classic 1991 album Bandwagonesque
