Good Morning!
Your NACC Chart Recap is here
Undeterred from being climbed over just last week, Waxahatchee’s fourth release (out on Merge Records) persevered and has risen to the top of the NACC 200 this week. The brainchild of Katie Crutchfield, the band, which includes her twin sister, Allison, becomes the first from any Alabama band to reach the top of the NACC 200.
Speaking of siblings, Montreal’s Arcade Fire (which includes brothers Win & William Butler) more than makes up for missing top add honors last week (by just one add!) by soaring into the Top 10 this week, up 35-6, and quickly putting themselves into contention for #1 on our chart in the weeks to come. Everything Now just became the Grammy-winning band’s third straight Billboard 200 chart-topper.
Last week’s top add-getter is this week’s biggest mover on the NACC 200. Death Cab For Cutie lead singer Benjamin Gibbard lands one of the largest one-week climbs the chart has seen, skyrocketing from 193-29 with his take on Teenage Fanclub’s classic 1991 album Bandwagonesque. The album is Gibbard’s favorite, by his favorite band, and he’s expressed how meaningful the music is to him even moreso now: “It is a retreat from the passage of time, a retreat from the political climate in our country and a reminder that there is beauty in the world.”
The highest debut on the NACC 200 this week is last’s week’s third-place finisher on adds behind the two artists profiled just above. Her name is Jen Cloher and she’s married to another artist who is no stranger to college and community radio: Courtney Barnett. Cloher has recorded music with her wife, but her musical career certainly predates that as this self-titled album is her fourth LP. It debuts at #56 on the chart this week.
Landing at #1 on the Adds Chart this week are The Districts. The Pennsylvania quartet (who all went to high school together) are originally from a small town in central PA called Lititz but have since relocated to Philadelphia. Expect a lofty debut on the NACC 200 next week with their third LP, Popular Manipulations, out on Fat Possum Records.
