#1 This Week on the NACC 200 : Portugal. The Man
————————————————————

Proving that you never know what’s going to happen with the NACC Chart’s panel of stations from week-to-week (which we think is a great thing), Portugal. The Man have scaled the NACC 200, climbing 3-1, after being climbed over just last week by Fleet Foxes. This has been a true breakthrough album for the band, originally formed as a side project for lead singer John Gourley’s screamo punk band, Anatomy Of A Ghost, in Wasilla, Alaska back in the early 2000s. Lead single “Feel It Now” has topped the Alternative and AAA Charts and is now making inroads at Top 40 and Hot AC. But their roots are here at College & Community radio and the band has been rewarded with a #1 album.
2017 has been an amazing year for long-awaited returns from beloved college radio bands. Granddaddy (11 years away), Slowdive (22 years)… and now Ride add their name to the list. Weather Diaries is their first album in 21 years. All four original members are here on the new album, and the band enjoys the biggest climb into the Top 10 of the NACC 200 this week, rising 11-6. Congrats to Wichita and Terrorbird for the move.
The highest debut of the week comes from sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim, known simply as HAIM. Their sophomore release, Something To Tell You, has become their second Top 10-debuting album on the Billboard 200 and launches onto the NACC 200 this week at #25.
Advancing from 190-94, and landing the biggest climb on the chart this week, is Ex Eye. A great example of the diversity of College and Community radio, Ex Eye’s self-titled debut is an instrumental post-metal album led by experimental saxophonist Colin Stetson. Kudos to Relapse and Planetary for the jump.
Finally, Broken Social Scene is back after a seven year break. Their new album, Hug Of Thunder, features all 15 original members. And these aren’t just any members. Metric’s Emily Haines & James Shaw, Leslie Feist, Jason Collett, and Stars’ Amy Millan & Evan Cranley have joined founders Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning to create a true super-group of musicians. Radio seems very eager to have the band back too. They own the most added record at NACC this week and also advance from 35-24 on the NACC 200.
