The quick turnover at the top of the NACC 200 continues. And this week’s #1 is a special one. After three weeks at #2 (and being leapfrogged by both Brittany Howard and Wilco), The New Pornographers persevere and reach number #1 themselves this week. We can’t recall another instance where an album has been so close to #1 and been climbed over twice before rising to the top. The band’s eighth LP, In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights (their second for Concord), becomes their second #1 on the NACC 200 following 2017’s Whiteout Conditions. All three previous NACC 200 #1 are stacked up right behind The New Pornographers at 2-3-4.
The Top 14 of the NACC 200 is about as stagnant as the chart has been in some time and only one album makes a significant move in that region. A most-added record and a NACC 200 highest debut now has the biggest (and only) climb into our Top 10 this week. It’s the Sub Pop release Junior from Montreal quartet Corridor. They rise 13-7.
The NACC 200’s highest debut comes from Virginia Beach, VA band Turnover. Formed in 2009, the band has released four LPs, including their latest, Altogether, all on Boston-based Run For Cover Records. The album jumps aboard the NACC 200 this week at #37.
Enjoying the biggest climb on the chart this week is LA-based The Growlers. Since forming in 2006, the band has put out six LPs. Their latest is Natural Affair, out on Beach Goth Records & Tapes, rises 156-39 this week.
Easily grabbing most-added honors is Brooklyn quartet Charly Bliss with a rare EP topping the list. In fact, the top 2 adds this week are both EPs (a NACC first). Charly Bliss’s second EP (also following two LPs), Young Enough, collects 75 Top 10 Adds and is just the third designated EP to reach #1 on the NACC 200 Adds chart.
Dan Snaith aka Caribou rises 3-1 this week on the NACC Singles Chart with, “Home,” his first new music in five years. The Districts grabs the most adds for any single this week with “Hey Jo,” the first taste of their upcoming fourth LP.
