The NACC Charts for November 28 are LIVE!

HOLIDAY CHARTING HIATUS
The last active chart week of 2017 will be December 12. NACC will not accept station reports for the chart weeks of December 19 & 26, 2017 or January 2, 2018. Charting will re-open on Friday, January 5th for the January 9, 2018 chart week.

First off, congrats to those NACC-charting artists that received a Grammy nomination yesterday. From one of our Top 5 adds this week (Mura Masa) to Leonard Cohen, Sylvan Esso to Mastodon, Odesza to Rapsody, The National to David Rawlings and so many more. College & Community radio have been the only place some of the artists nominated received substantial radio airplay. Nearly 3000 different albums/singles are reported weekly on the NACC Charts making this side of the radio dial, by far, the most eclectic, the most cutting edge, and dare we say, the most interesting.

St. Vincent‘s MASSEDUCTION moves into a tie with Ty Segall and Broken Social Scene for the second longest run at #1 on the NACC 200 this year. She was just announced as part of the closing night line-up of the UK’s All Points East Festival. She’ll join headliner Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds along with Patti Smith and Courtney Barnett for the last night (June 3, 2018) of the two weekend-long festival. MASSEDUCTION will try to fend off Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings (3-2) next week and match Alvvays for the longest stay at #1 this year.

Last week’s top add-getter, OCS, is this week’s highest debut on the NACC 200 at #15, which places them in the Top 5 for the overall highest debuts of the year. Memory Of A Cut Off Head is the 20th album in as many years for John Dwyer and his band and returns them to their original moniker as well as reuniting Dwyer with former core band member Brigid Dawson.

Morrissey enjoys the biggest jump on the NACC 200 this week, rising 128-25 with his 11th studio album, Low In High School. Morrissey has been making music dating back to 1982 as the lead singer of The Smiths. Famously known for his lyrics that generally show disdain for basically every facet of life, Morrissey has been a figure of both praise and derision. NME considers him to be “one of the most influential artists ever.” The Los Angeles Times says he “patented the template for modern indie rock.” His eyebrow raising opinions on things like immigration, race and, most recently, sexual assault, have landed him negative headlines and he just vowed this week never to do a print interview again. Love him or hate him, there is no doubting Morrissey’s massive influence in the indie rock community. And he’d probably be happy (well, as happy as he can be) that you hate him anyway!

For the first time this year we have a tie for the most added record of the week. One of the artists nabbing 108 Top 10 adds is Björk Guðmundsdóttir, known professionally simply as Björk. The wholly unique Icelandic singer has been called the “queen of art pop” and been named by many music publications as one of the greatest voices in music. Utopia is her 10th studio album.

Tying Björk for the add crown are the prolific King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Polygondwanaland is the band’s fourth release of 2017 and their 12th overall. The band has called the album “FREE. Free as in, free”
and encouraged fans to make their own copies though the album is for sale online in case you do want to pay for it.

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings rise to the top of the Non-Comm Chart, Beck recaptures the NACC Next crown, and we have new #1s at Folk, Electronic and Jazz too.
