Fall is definitely in the air with a wave of high profile releases on both the NACC 200 and Adds Charts. Three big jumps into the Top 10 this week and climbing records at #1 and #2 ensure a lively battle for the top spot in weeks to come. This week finds The War On Drugs climbing to #1 with a release that’s been buzzing on the NACC 200 as an ‘Advance Tracks’ album for weeks. After last week’s impressive 24-2 climb, it was almost a given they would rise to the top. A Deeper Understanding seems to be somewhat of a breakthrough album for the band, spawning their first Top 10 Commercial AAA-peaking single “Holding On” (which has also become their first charting Commercial Alternative single as well). But as is almost always the case, college and community radio can claim supporting the band long before these things happened.
The James Murphy-fronted LCD Soundsystem continue their comeback run with a monster 25-3 move this week. Reaching the top of the NACC 200 will be the next goal for the band’s first album since they reunited last year. American Dream has also become the band’s first #1-selling album, debuting atop the Billboard 200 this week. LCD Soundsystem kick off their fall tour on October 17th with two shows in Washington DC and will cap things off with 10 shows at Brooklyn Steel in December. Honorable mention must go to Grizzly Bear for their LCD Soundsystem-matching 22-spot climb into the Top 10 this week (29-7) with their fifth release, Painted Ruins.
Bears aren’t the only animal roaming the NACC charts this week. Foxes, wolves, lizards, rats, gorilla(z), and mosquitos can be found scattered amongst various NACC charts… some multiple times. But it’s deer that reign supreme with three different bands popping up on the charts. The highest among them is Deerhoof, who score the week’s biggest climb, racing 150-14. The San Francisco-based band has existed since 1994. Only one founding member (Greg Saunier) remains (though Satomi Matsuzaki deserves mention joining in 1995). The band’s 14th studio album, Mountain Moves, certainly seems Top 10-bound.
We have a first on the NACC 200. We’ve never had an album that hasn’t been released yet as our highest debut. LCD Soundsystem almost did that earlier this year when their first two singles from American Dream were bundled and debuted together back in May. But the album name had not been announced yet. Beck debuts this week at #27 with an album that doesn’t come out until October 13th. Airplay is based on four advance tracks from the LP. Colors is one of four ‘advance tracks’ albums on the chart this week and will be Beck’s 13th studio album dating back to 1993.
Alvvays has quickly become college and community radio darlings. The Toronto-based band’s highly anticipated sophomore release, Antisocialites, is the follow-up to their self-titled 2014 debut, which went to #1 at college radio. This new record is the first to top 100 adds since our June 27th chart, which certainly bodes well for another chart-topping album for the band.
Look below to see all of this week’s NACC #1s. We have returns to the top at Electronic and Folk and The War Of Drug pulls off a rare triple crown with climbs to #1 at NACC Next and Non-Comm.
