The NACC Charts For September 5 Are Live!

Patience has paid off for Arcade Fire. After waiting for two weeks at #2, one beloved Canadian band replaces another at #1. The Grammy & Juno Award-winning band is no stranger to #1. Everything Now debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart and has topped album charts around the world including England, Ireland, Portugal and Scotland. It has also spawned the band’s biggest U.S. hit to date. “Everything Now” has topped the AAA Chart and is edging closer to the Alternative Top 10 (where it would be the band’s first Top 10). Arcade Fire will have their work cut out for them if they want to spend a second week on top. Three albums make massive moves into the Top 10 this week and will challenge for the NACC 200 crown next week.

The biggest mover into the Top 10 comes from Oh Sees. They soar from where they debuted last week at #71 to #6 this week with their 19th release, Orc. Nineteen albums in 20 years (including two as Thee Oh Sees last year) certainly qualifies frontman John Dwyer and his San Francisco-based band as prolific. But how about the band already announcing their 20th release this coming November? The band that loves to change it’s name will release that album as OCS.

LCD Soundsystem have been teasing their comeback for a while now. Since October of 2015, when word came that the band would reunite in 2016, excitement has been building. A Christmas 2015 single, headlining performances at Coachella and Lollapalooza in 2016, and the premiere of two new songs on SNL in May. Those songs together scored the highest debut of the week on the NACC 200 earlier this year (the only non-album to accomplish that feat so far). Word came yesterday that American Dream is on pace to become the band’s first Billboard 200-topping album. And it’s well on it’s way to topping the NACC 200 as well, simultaneously scoring Top Add and Highest Debut honors (at #25). Congrats to DFA, Columbia & The Syndicate.

With LCD Soundsystem taking two of our five features this week, we have the opportunity to shine a light on another record. And that has to be The War On Drugs, who almost leapt from outside the Top 20 to #1 this week. Their 24-2 move is an impressive one and certainly lines them up for a serious challenge for the top next week. The Philadelphia-based band released their first album in 2008 (which included Kurt Vile, who went solo after that release). A Deeper Understanding is the band’s fourth full length studio album.

The NACC 200’s biggest mover this week is from Liars. TFCF is their eighth album (out on Mute Records) since the band formed in 2000. Angus Andrew is the founding and only constant member of Liars. To that end, the band are known for radically changing their sound from album-to-album. Their latest is off to a wonderful start, roaring from 172-21 on the chart this week.

Check out #1s on NACC’s medley of genre charts just below. Highlights include Iron & Wine (the third of our big Top 10 NACC 200 jumps this week) topping the Non-Comm Chart with their new album, Beast Epic. We also have the most new overall #1s we’ve had in one week up until now, with fresh chart-toppers at Hip Hop, Folk & Jazz (an unprecedented 30-1 jump for Christian McBride Big Band) and a return to #1 for a previous chart-topper at Electronic.
