The War On Drugs gain a second week on top of the NACC 200

After reaching #1 last week, Philadelphia sextet The War On Drugs, had their work cut out, fending off Snail Mail, Curtis Harding, and Idles to gain a second week on top. When the dust settled they had done exactly that. Their fifth album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore (Atlantic) matches the two-week run at #1 that their 2017 LP, A Deeper Understanding, enjoyed. Though gaining in points this week, The War On Drugs has a smaller lead than they did last week over the #2 album. So a chart-topping battle with Idles (6-2) is definitely on the horizon. Also worth mentioning is that The War On Drugs scored a hat-trick topping the NACC 200, NACC Next, and NACC Non-Comm Charts this week as well.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. NACC 200 chart-topping duo Beach House (formed in 2004 by Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally) are back in the top tier with a four-song preview of their upcoming eighth LP, Once Twice Melody (Sub Pop), due February 18. An EP that includes the first chapter of an eventual four parts rises 12-7.

Also reaching the NACC Top 10 this week is Denver outfit Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. Formed in 2014, the band has just released their third LP, The Future (Stax/Fantasy/Concord). It’s the seventh LP lead singer Nathaniel Rateliff has released counting three solo efforts and one LP with his previous project, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Wheel. The Future rises 13-8 this week.

Enjoying the highest debut of the week on the NACC 200 is grammatically defiant Los Angeles duo Deap Vally. Lindsay Troy and Julie Edwards formed the project in 2011 in true rock ‘n roll style after meeting at a crochet class. Four LPs have followed, including their new effort, Marriage (Cooking Vinyl). The album leaps onto the NACC 200 at #28.

England-based, arm-bending enthusiasts (and really, who isn’t?), Elbow, collects more Top 10 Adds than anyone else going for adds this week. The band’s ninth LP, Flying Dream 1 (Polydor), nabs 56 Top 10 Adds, easily taking the top spot of the Adds Chart. Expect a lofty debut on the NACC 200 from the band next week.

Honorable mention this week goes to Kill Birds, who scores the biggest climb on the NACC 200, rising 185-58. The KRO band has apparently found fans in artists like Dave Grohl and Kim Gordon and is building a similar story at the NACC panel.

Austin, TX-based band Spoon dominates the NACC Singles Chart for a fourth week this week. “The Hardest Cut” is the first single from their upcoming 10th LP, Lucifer On The Sofa, due February 11. Dublin four-piece Sprints scores the most-added single of the week with “How Does The Story Go?”, a song that has been out in the world since July, but is just getting a push to radio now.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new chart-toppers this week at NACC Canadian, Folk, Electronic, World, Chill, and Blues and returns to #1 on NACC NEXT, R&B/Soul and Latin.
