#1 Vampire Weekend | The NACC Charts for June 11, 2019

Vampire Weekend soared to #1 in their first week on top, leaping 15-1, before ceding the top spot to Tacocat the next week. But their fourth LP, Father Of The Bride (Spring Snow/Columbia) quickly moved back to #1 and has now spent four non-consecutive weeks on top. In doing so they’ve tied Girlpool and Weyes Blood for the most weeks at #1 this year. They’ll look to take the ‘most weeks at #1 in 2019’ title all for themselves next week, though Cate Le Bon (4-2) and Flying Lotus (who we will profile next) may have something to say about preventing that from happening.

Three new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Rising 11-9 is Jamila Woods and Middle Kids pops ahead 13-10. But the biggest mover into the NACC Top 10 comes from Steve Ellison, who records as Flying Lotus. His sixth LP (and first since 2014) is called Flamagra and it features a host of contributors including Anderson Paak, Denzel Curry (who himself has a Top 5 overall/#1 Hip Hop add this week), Toro Y Moi, George Clinton, Thundercat, Solange, and Shabazz Palaces, among others. The Warp release rises 20-5 on the chart this week with an eye on #1 (a spot he’s also looking to reach at NACC Hip Hop and Electronic where he also reaches the Top 5 this week).

The NACC 200’s biggest move this week comes from Dutch quartet Pip Blom. Pip Blom is also the name of the band’s lead singer (her brother, Tender, is also part of the band). After releasing a series of singles in 2016, their debut EP, Paycheck, came out last year. Now their debut LP, Boat, is being met with universal praise and leaps 163-18 on the NACC 200 after coming in at #3 on the NACC Adds Chart last week.

Enjoying the week’s highest debut is Nashville duo *repeat repeat. Their third album (and second for Dangerbird Records) is called Glazed. The husband-and-wife team of Jared and Kristyn Corder enlisted Patrick Carney of The Black Keys to produce their new album, which jumps aboard the NACC 200 at #41 this week. Honorable mention goes to French Vanilla, who debuts just one spot behind *repeat repeat at #42.

The most-added record this week comes from the trio Palehound. Led by Ellien Kempner (who began Palehound as a solo project), the group’s third album, Black Friday, collects 63 Top 10 adds this week as well as debuting on the NACC 200 at #174.

Sleater-Kinney are back with a new single (the first for new label home Mom + Pop) and leap 12-1 on NACC Singles with “Hurry On Home.” Four singles tie for most-added honors this week (a NACC first): The Babe Rainbow (“Something New”), Bon Iver (“Hey Ma” b/w “U (Man Like)”), The Darcys (“Better Days” b/w “Just Here With My Friends”), and Jay Som (“Superbike”).
