#1 Waxahatchee | NACC Charts for the week ending April 21

Waxahatchee (the recording name for Alabama native Katie Crutchfield) pins down a second week at #1 on the NACC 200 with her fifth LP, Saint Cloud (Merge). Not only that, but Waxahatchee pulls off the rare NACC hat-trick landing simultaneous #1s at NACC Non-Comm (also for a second week) and NACC NEXT (climbing 3-1 this week). Both Moaning and Thundercat have their eyes on challenging Waxahatchee for #1 next week.

Speaking of Thundercat, the artist with last week’s most-added record wastes no time leaping into the NACC Top 10 this week. Los Angeles-based Grammy winner Stephen Lee Bruner soars 26-4 with his fourth LP, It Is What It Is (Brainfeeder), and lands one of two new albums to reach the top tier this week. Half Waif also goes Top 10, rising 13-8.

Another Grammy winner, Fiona Apple, has returned for the first time in eight years with her fifth LP, Fetch The Bolt Cutters. The Epic Records release, which is already the best-reviewed album of 2020, lands both most-added honors (with the most Top 10 Adds in nearly two months) and the week’s highest debut, leaping aboard the NACC 200 at #29.

English singer-songwriter Laura Marling is back with her seventh LP, Song For Our Daughter. The title is a figurative one, with Marling writing to a fictional daughter. The album, out on Chrysalis/Partisan, is the NACC 200’s biggest climber this week, racing 158-36. Originally slated for August release, it is a rare album that was actually moved up due to the current pandemic, versus being pushed back.

With Fiona Apple taking two of our feature highlights this week, we can shine a light on an additional release. It comes from celebrated guitarist, Ed O’Brien. He is the fourth member of Radiohead (who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year) to release music apart from the band. Put out on Capitol Records under the moniker EOB, Earth is the second-highest debut of the week on the NACC 200 at #32.

Australian duo The Avalanches (with a vocal assist from Pink Siifu and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo) rises 6-1 on NACC Singles with “Running Red Lights.” Car Seat Headrest lands the most-added single of the week with “Hollywood” from their upcoming Make A Door Less Open, due out next week.

The Top 5 overall NACC Adds, all of this week’s #1 genre releases, and most-added genre records are included below. In addition to NACC NEXT, there are new #1s at NACC Canadian & Hip Hop as well as a return to #1 at Latin.
