Wet Leg controls the NACC 200 for a fifth straight week

Wet Leg‘s competitors are formidable, including two artists (Father John Misty, Fontaines DC) that have previous NACC 200 #1s under their belts, but the UK duo controls the NACC 200 for a fifth straight week with their eponymous debut LP (Domino). Wet Leg is now just one week away from matching Beach House for the longest run at #1 in 2022. They’ll have their work cut out for them though as their lead over the #2 album is the smallest it’s been since they reached #1. Wet Leg does tie Beach House for the longest #1 of the year on NACC NEXT and now has the lone longest-running #1 at NACC Non-Comm.

Just like last week, only one new album reaches the NACC Top 10 this week. It comes from the Los Angeles duo of Avery Tucker and Harmony Divided, who records as Girlpool. Two weeks ago they scored ‘Most-Added’ honors with their fourth LP, Forgiveness (Anti-). The album rises 12-8 this week in Girlpool’s quest to score their third straight #1 on the NACC 200.

Landing the fourth-highest debut of 2022 this week is New Jersey native Sharon Van Etten. She explodes onto the chart at #11 with her sixth LP, We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong (Jagjaguwar). It’s the follow-up to her 2019 NACC 200 chart-topper Remind Me Tomorrow. This album was released with no preview tracks, an especially rare rollout strategy these days, and is meant to listen to all at once, and in order.

Enjoying this week’s biggest climb on the NACC 200 is the New York trio Sunflower Bean. The band’s third LP, Headful Of Sugar (Mom+Pop), leaps 155 spots on the chart this week, rising 192-37. This is actually the very first time we’ve had an opportunity to feature the band here. They formed in 2013 and their band name apparently comes from guitarist Nick Kivlen’s love of sunflower seeds and drummer Olive Faber’s love of coffee (beans).

Akron duo The Black Keys has returned with their 11th LP, Dropout Boogie (Nonesuch). The album includes their recent NACC Singles #1 “Wild Child.” It’s this week’s most-added release, collecting 65 Top 10 Adds and debuting at #26 on the NACC 200. They’re looking for their second chart-topper after their 2019 album, ‘Let’s Rock,’ enjoyed the highest debut ever on the NACC 200 at #2 and went on to spend five weeks at #1.

The new #1 on NACC Singles this week comes from the Toronto quartet, Metric. The first single, “All Comes Crashing,” from their upcoming eighth LP, Formentera, due July 8, is their second #1 NACC Single following their previous album’s lead single, “Dark Saturday.” Returning with this week’s most-added single is the Bellingham five-piece Death Cab For Cutie. They’re back with “Roman Candles,” the new single from their forthcoming tenth LP, Asphalt Meadows, due September 16.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at Blues, Chill, and R&B/Soul this week.
