UK duo Wet Leg lands at #1 on the NACC 200 for a sixth straight week

The UK duo Wet Leg lands at #1 on the NACC 200 for a sixth straight week with their eponymous debut LP (Domino) and in doing so ties Beach House for the longest stay at #1 so far this year. Six different artists occupied the #1 spot over the first two months of 2022 and now just two artists have been there over the subsequent three months. Wet Leg’s lead over the #2 album from Father John Misty shrinks again this week and The Black Keys storms the Top 5 so next week should be interesting.

Two albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Last week’s highest debut from Sharon Van Etten advances 11-9 and the aforementioned The Black Keys (who took most added honors last week) soar to #4 after debuting at #26 last week. Their 11th LP, Dropout Boogie (Nonesuch), is on a quest to deliver the Akron duo their second NACC 200 chart-topper and it makes a strong case for heading that way this week.

Making the biggest climb into the NACC Top 20 this week is Lubbock, TX-born Kevin Morby. A former member of Woods and The Babies, Morby has gone on to an even more robust solo career, releasing seven LPs, including his latest, This Is A Photograph (Dead Oceans/Secretly Group). The album races from 95-16 on the NACC 200 this week.

Canadian four-piece TOPS enjoys the biggest climb on this week’s chart. The band formed in 2011 in Montreal when the band Silly Kissers (which included three TOPS members) disbanded. The band has released four studio albums and has just put out their first EP, Empty Seats, on their own Musique TOPS label. The EP leaps from 185-40.

Another Montreal-based band, Cola, takes the most-added crown this week. Two years ago Tim Darcy and Ben Stidworthy, two members of the now-defunct band Ought, began writing songs with U.S. Girls drummer Evan Cartwright. The result of that work is their debut LP, Deep In View (Fire Talk), which collects 58 Top 10 Adds this week while simultaneously scoring one of the Top 5 highest debuts on the NACC 200.

Last week’s most-added single from Bellingham five-piece Death Cab For Cutie is this week’s new #1 on the NACC Singles Chart. “Roman Candles” is the lead single from their upcoming tenth LP, Asphalt Meadows, due September 16. The most-added single of the week comes from Durham duo Sylvan Esso. For now, “Sunburn” is a stand-alone single that was released just ahead of a trio of hometown dates they played last week with the likes of Yo La Tengo, Indigo de Souza, Vagabon, and Mr. Twin Sister, among others.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are returns to #1 at R&B/Soul and Chill as well as new #1s at NACC Non-Comm, NACC Canadian, Folk, World, and Heavy this week.
