Wet Leg reaches #1 with their eponymous debut LP

When the UK duo of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, who record as Wet Leg, collected more Top 10 Adds than any artist has garnered since March of 2020, it was almost a given we’d see them reach #1. Dating back to early 2018, no album has collected more than 100 Top 10 adds and not gone to #1. Wet Leg wasted no time at all getting there either. Last week, in addition to being the week’s most-added artist, they enjoyed a rare Top 10 debut at #8. This week they leap 8-1 with their eponymous debut LP (Domino). They also reach #1 on both the NACC Non-Comm and NACC NEXT Charts.

Three albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Father John Misty, who we featured last week, rises 21-4, as he seeks his third NACC 200 #1. The week’s biggest climb into the top tier comes from the Los Angeles punk quartet The Linda Lindas. Formed in 2018, the band has built buzz over the last couple of years which culminated in signing to Epitaph in 2021. A number of advanced singles continued to build excitement at radio. And now the band’s debut LP, Growing Up, is off to a fast start, soaring 64-10 this week.

Also reaching the NACC 200’s Top 10 this week is UK band, Ibibio Sound Machine. Two weeks ago they scored the week’s most-added album with their fourth LP, Electricity (Merge). This week, they rise 11-7 on the NACC 200 and, speaking to the band’s multi-genre appeal, the album tops NACC’s R&B/Soul, World, and Electronic Charts this week as well.

Philadelphia native Lizzy McAlpine enjoys the biggest climb on the NACC 200 this week, and one of the Top 5 biggest climbs of 2022, with her third LP, five seconds flat (AWAL). Her notoriety has risen recently with exposure on TikTok and she worked with Grammy winners Jacob Collier and Finneas, among others, on this release. She leaps 195-33 this week.

Pennsylvania musician Kurt Vile is back. He’s been a ubiquitous presence on the NACC Charts over the years reaching the Top 10 of the NACC 200 multiple times. This week, he simultaneously lands most-added honors (with 79 Top 10 Adds) as well as the week’s highest debut at #36 with his ninth LP (watch my moves) (Verve).

Soccer Mommy spends a third week at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart with “Shotgun,” the lead single from her forthcoming third LP, Sometimes, Forever, due June 24. She also spends her third week charting higher on the NACC 200 than any other single has previously. Built To Spill has been on the NACC 200 recently with special projects, but their first album of new material since 2015, When The Wind Forgets Your Name, will be released September 9. The first single, “Gonna Lose,” is this week’s most-added single.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at NACC Non-Comm, NACC NEXT, NACC Canadian, Hip Hop, Chill, Electronic, and Blues.
