Our 250th Wednesday NACC Chart Recap is here! #1 this week : Wet Leg

The UK duo of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, better known as Wet Leg, opens up an even wider lead at #1 this week after leaping 8-1 last week. Their eponymous debut LP, out on Domino, was one of the most hyped and anticipated debut albums (and records in general) to come out in 2022 and they certainly have not underperformed expectations. Wet Leg is also #1 on both the NACC NEXT & NACC Non-Comm Charts and is one of the Top 10 best-reviewed albums of the year so far according to Metacritic.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Tucson-based band Calexico rises 12-9 to score their third NACC Top 10 album since 2018. Honorable mention to Spoon as well for sneaking back into the top tier, up 11-10. But it’s last week’s most-added and highest-debuting album that smokes the competition. (watch my moves) from former The War On Drugs guitarist and now celebrated solo musician Kurt Vile soars 36-6 this week with his first release on the Verve imprint. Like Calexico, Vile now has three NACC Top 10 LPs under his belt.

The UK six-piece Spiritualized has been tickling the ears of College and Community staff and listeners since 1990. Jason Pierce is the only original member though most of the rest of the band has been part of Spiritualized for over 20 years. Their ninth LP, Everything Was Beautiful (Fat Possum), is their first since 2018 and soars onto the NACC 200 at #18. It looks like it could become their second NACC Top 10 album as soon as next week.

Lucas Nathan has been making music since 2009 and has been doing so under the moniker Jerry Paper since 2012. Their eighth studio album, Free Time (their third for Stones Throw), explores themes of coming out as non-binary in 2020 and sonically gets Nathan back to their more eccentric and experimental earlier work. Jerry Paper enjoys this week’s biggest climb on the NACC 200, leaping 185-39.

Besting King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard by just one Top 10 add to take most-added honors this week (for a second time) is Harriette Pilbeam who records as Hatchie. The Brisbane-born musician has just released her second LP, Giving The World Away (Secretly Canadian). It collects 74 Top 10 Adds which is even more than her debut LP, Keepsake, grabbed when it was the most-added album back in 2019. She also debuts at #82 on the NACC 200.

Soccer Mommy enjoys a fourth week at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart, though it is her smallest lead over the next single since she first reached #1. “The Shotgun” is the lead single from her forthcoming third LP, Sometimes, Forever, which comes out June 24. UK five-piece Hot Chip has returned with “Down,” the lead single from their upcoming eighth LP, Freakout/Release, due August 19. It’s the only single to make the overall NACC 200 Top 30 Adds this week.

This week’s Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at R&B/Soul, Jazz & Latin, and a return to #1 at Blues.
