#1 Wilco | The NACC Charts for November 19, 2019

We’ve launched two brand new NACC charts this week!
Our inaugural Canadian Chart launches with Begonia at #1. And our new
R&B/Soul Chart debuts with former NACC 200 #1 Brittany Howard on top.

With the Top 4 of the NACC 200 filled with current and former chart-toppers last week (two of which had been on the chart for less time than last week’s #1 from The New Pornographers) it felt like there was a chance we’d see a return to #1 this week and that is exactly what has happened. Rising back 2-1 to land their second week on top is Wilco. Ode To Joy is the band’s eleventh studio album and is out on their own dBpm imprint.

Two albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Recent most-added artist Sudan Archives rises 17-6. But it’s British singer Tahliah Debrett Barnett (aka FKA twigs) who enjoys the biggest move into the top tier, racing from 48-10 with her second LP, Magdalene (out on Young Turks/Beggars). It’s already one of the best-reviewed albums of 2019.

The NACC 200’s highest debut comes from Phil Elverum (who records as
Mount Eerie). This is actually the third time that Mount Eerie has landed the NACC 200’s highest debut, following 2017’s A Crow Looked At Me and last year’s Now Only. Lost Wisdom pt. 2 (out on his own P.V. Elverum & Sun label) is the thematic follow-up to 2008’s Lost Wisdom, both of which Elverum recorded with his favorite musician Julie Doiron.

Making the biggest move on the NACC 200 this week is Los Angeles-born Claud Mintz, who records simply as Claud. A non-binary artist who uses they/them pronouns, Claud (who now lives in NYC) soars 196-85 on the chart this week with their second EP, Sideline Star, out on The Orchard.

The race for most-added honors this week was as close as they come with the Top 3 on the chart separated by only two adds. Collecting 56 Top 10 adds (one more than Milky Chance and two more than DJ Shadow) is Chicago quintet Varsity. They collect their early singles from 2015-2016 in one album for The Basement Takes on Run For Cover.

Caribou holds down the top spot on NACC Singles again this week with “Home.” Of Montreal returns with “Peace To All Freaks,” the first single from their UR FUN album, due early next year. It’s this week’s most-added single and a rare single that scores an overall Top 10 add.

The Top 5 overall NACC Adds, all of this week’s #1 genre releases, and most-added genre records are included below. There are returns to #1 at NACC Non-Comm and Folk as well as new #1s at NACC NEXT, Heavy, and Electronic.
